Wilderness Hut Adventure – Finnish Lapland

Escape into the silence of Finnish Lapland on this overnight adventure to a remote wilderness hut near Ylläs. No electricity, no running water, and famously bad mobile reception. Just snow-covered forest, a crackling stove, and a star-filled Arctic sky. You choose how you get there: glide through the wilderness on touring skis or snow shoes for a true taste of winter trekking, or set off by snowmobile for a faster, adrenaline-filled ride into the backcountry. Keep your eyes peeled along the way, as reindeer roam freely here, and there’s a good chance you’ll spot a herd crossing the snowy trails.

Option 1: Arctic Pulka Expedition: overnight Snowshoe or Ski Tour
Ski roughly 5-10 km through snowy forest trails to reach the hut, a great introduction to winter trekking, suitable for first-timers too. All equipment is provided, including touring skis, pulkas, and sleeping bags; you just bring your own winter clothing.

Option 2: Overnight Snowmobile Tour to the Wilderness Hut
Ride snowmobiles along scenic trails to the hut. Choose a relaxed 35 km route (around 20 hours total) or, for more experienced drivers, an extended 100–150 km route (around 24 hours) for extra time behind the handlebars. Full winter driving gear is included.

Whichever way you arrive, the evening unfolds the same way: a candle-lit dinner cooked over the fire (hearty reindeer stew or vegaterian option on request), followed by a wilderness sauna and the invigorating option of ice dipping or ice swimming in a nearby lake. As night falls, it is with walking out onto the frozen lake extra logs go into the wood stove and you crawl into a warm winter sleeping bag on the comfortable bunk beds, lulled to sleep by the crackle of the fire. But before you turn in, it’s well worth stepping back outside for a moment, with zero light pollution out here, the night sky puts on a show of its own, and with a bit of luck you might even catch the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
