Survive like a local
We invite you to join our two day hike through the grassland and tropical forests on the lower slopes of Mt. Rinjani. After a couple of hours walk from Sembalun, reach the grassland area of Dandaun, home to wild animals such as monkeys.
After another hour you’ve reached basecamp. Time to gather fire wood and cow dung! Cow dung is used for starting the campfire. Togeather we will seek ingredients and then learn how to cook traditional dishes on a campfire. After dinner the guide Heppi shares local stories. And he will bring his guitar.
The next day after breakfast we’ll get a taste of local agricultural traditions. Local farmers herd hundreds of cows using only salt, a bamboo rod and a loud YEEE MAAAAAAAAA!
On the first day we picked up tree seedlings in coconut fibers. Now we’ll plant a tree to compensate for the wood we burn. Heppi loves to give a training and demonstration of tree nursery. Then it’s time to leave the cool mountain breeze and walk back to Sembalun.
