Kayaking and camping in the Central Highlands
To many travellers Dalat and the surrounding area is known as the adventure capital of Vietnam. Enjoy the cooler climate of the Central Highlands and get active in the outdoors. It may sound strange, but it almost feels like you’re in Canada!
Your adventure begins and ends in a guesthouse outside Dalat on the Tuyen Lam Lake. A quiet and relaxed little place surrounded by nature, the perfect basecamp if you ask us. The day after arrival you will head toward the Razorback Trail that heads up the mountains surrounding the lake. You will pass through a mix of tropical jungle and pine forest.
Reaching the lake you will go kayaking and have a boat take you to the spot where you will set up camp, directly on the lake. There are toilet facilities nearby at a restaurant frequented but daytrippers, but they will be gone by the time you have set up the tents. Go for a swim and enjoy the cool fresh air. When the sun sets you light the campfire and together with your guide you will prepare a tasty BBQ diner on the open fire. The rest of the night is spent stargazing and telling stories around the campfire.
Next morning you have breakfast, break up camp and head back onto the trail. It starts through pine forest again before heading into the jungle. If you are lucky you may see wild orchids bloom or spot a solitary gibbon swinging off on the distance. After a picnic lunch you will reach a small village where you will be picked up and transferred back to your guesthouse for a proper shower and a good night sleep before transferring out again the next day.
